Military Students

The University of Saint Mary welcomes members of the military and their families and recognizes the special sacrifices they have made.

We understand the challenges both active and veteran members of the military may undergo when adjusting to university life. As a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity College (SOC), one of more than 1,500 colleges and universities provide voluntary post-secondary education to members of the military.

As an SOC member, the university recognizes the unique nature of the military commitment and seeks to ease the transfer of relevant course credits, offers flexible scheduling, and provides credit for learning stemming from appropriate military training and experience.

USM is also a Department of Defense Yellow Ribbon Program  participant. The Yellow Ribbon Program provides undergraduate and graduate education benefits in excess of the traditional G.I. Bill benefit.

You can apply for benefits through the Veterans Administration. Please keep in mind that any veteran’s education benefits you receive must be reported on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if you are applying for financial aid.

You will also need to fill out a USM Veterans Information Sheet.

USM also has a Veterans Services Office on the main campus in Leavenworth to serve as your primary source for information on eligibility requirements, admissions, and other important resources for students with military obligations.

Call (913) 345-8288 for details about how the University of Saint Mary can help members of the military achieve their educational goals.
